Big Brothers - Crayon & Construction Paper

Institutional Illustration

Big Brothers Big Sisters This was a piece created for the “Advanced Illustration” course at AIO. This was a piece for a proposed brochure for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and I used a stylized figure similar to the one I used in my “Battle for Gay Teens” magazine illustration piece below. The figures are genderless, but clearly show the relationship between them.

  • Format - Jpeg
  • Construction paper, crayon, with digital enhancement and composition

Gay Teens - Acrylic Painting

Magazine Article illustration

The Battle Over Gay Teens Time Magazine Article Another sample from my illustration course, this is an acrylic painting on canvas which illustrates the main point of the article, that gay teenagers are being influenced by family & community as well as the traditional gay community, while they have more options than ever before. Many younger gays who are out feel that they would like to be a person who happens to be gay, so the cords that both sides are tugging at are actually in control of the central figure.

  • Format - Jpeg
  • Original Format - acrylic on canvas
  • Layout in Adobe InDesign

Playstation 3 Ad - Mixed Media

Game Ad

Early PS3 Ad This piece is meant to be a contrast to the sleek and shiny look of the PS3 and the curve of the prototype PS3 controller. It’s raw power cannot be hidden, and the packaging holding the consumer from that power is weakening… but there’s a strict warning. This was perhaps one of the most fun pieces of illustration I’ve done, as it used so many nontraditional art materials… I even ran a piece of grocery sack through my inkjet printer at one point of the process! It’s also a lot of fun when part of the process of creating a piece is balling it up and spilling food coloring on it.

  • Format - Jpeg
  • Original Format - paper sack (with early PS3 photo printed on it), masking tape, markers, and food coloring
  • Layout in Adobe Photoshop
